LAHORE: Pakistan suffered a huge loss due to Maulana Fazlur Rehman independence march, missing out on hosting the Tennis Davis Cup tie from Pakistan.
According to details, Pakistan and India had a Davis Cup tie match in Islamabad on 29th and 30th November, India was already looking for excuses not to come to Pakistan and now Maulana march made India difficult.
The International Tennis Federation withdrew its opposition to hosting Davis Cup tie due to opposition sit-ins, a decision was made in the wake of the ongoing march and threats in Islamabad.
The ITF has asked the Pakistan Tennis Federation to decide on a neutral venue in five days to compete with India in the Davis Cup.
Taking advantage of the Maulana March, the Indian Tennis Association (AITA) demanded the International Tennis Federation to select an alternate field for the match, in which case it is not possible to play.
It is understood that Davis Cup tie matches were to be played in Islamabad on September 14 and 15, but Pakistan India was postponed due to tensions, after which a new date was set on 29 and 30 November.
