Islamabad: Federal Ombudsman has said that there are more prisoners in Pakistan’s jails, 77,000 prisoners instead of 55,000.

He said this in a report in the Supreme Court. According to the details, the Federal Ombudsman said that there are more prisoners in the jails in all four provinces.

The report says that in a total of 144 prisons across the country, there is a total capacity of fifty thousand, while there are more than 77,000 prisoners.

According to the report of the Federal Ombudsman, there are forty thousand prisoners in 42 jails of the province of Punjab, with a capacity of only thirty thousand in place.

In addition, the KP has the capacity to hold 9,000 inmates, but there are ten thousand inmates. The report says that Balochistan’s condition is slightly better.

The jail has the capacity to house two and a half thousand prisoners, where there are 2,000 prisoners. There are 17,000 prisoners in Sindh jails and the capacity is only thirteen thousand.

The Supreme Court in its own notice of the deteriorating conditions in the jail had entrusted the Federal Ombudsman with the recommendation to redress prisoners’ complaints.
